Why did “The Shirtless Dude” leave MoveU?

Find out why Andrew Dettelbach, “The Shirtless Dude”, left MoveU and started Whealth.

Thanks for being curious about Whealth and our founding story! In this post, you'll learn about my past experience co-founding MoveU, lessons learned along the way, what makes Whealth different, and finally insight into our program. Let's get started!

MoveU offered a place for me to learn and grow. I co-founded MoveU in 2016 and built the first and only program the company sold for the next four years. I coached 15,000 people through the online community creating an environment to motivate, support, and lead people through their transformations and overcome their pain. I grew a social media platform to over 1.1 million followers, putting in the consistent daily work required to create that growth. I led a team of 20 people. In June of 2020, I was terminated.

My fiance (who was also an owner at MoveU) and I began reflecting on the last several years of our lives and how much our knowledge, training methodology, and understanding of the human body and pain had evolved. We knew we needed to create a new company and program that reflected all the things we’d learned, all the new knowledge we had obtained through continued education, and the core values that were so important to us.

We created an amazing team and got to work on our new business, Whealth. We were initially limited with a non-compete and when that expired we dove back into what we do best- helping people overcome pain and injuries, and lead healthy and fulfilling lives.

The Whealth Limitless program is the most comprehensive program I have built and encompasses our most recent knowledge and experience. We’ve incorporated nutrition and mindset education as well, knowing that physical movements are only one piece of the puzzle. With this more holistic approach, accounting for the biopsychosocial model of pain, the testimonials and results from the program have been mind-blowing. We are seeing faster results than ever, we’ve leveled up in many areas, and we are so proud of the outcome.

Our online community at Whealth is full of vibrant, supportive individuals at various points in their journeys. Some have been learning from us for years and have now taken on mentoring and support roles for many others, some are brand new and in the thick of their transformations. I’ve been undergoing my own transformation this past year. I’ve embraced the growth and lessons that have come my way, and I can honestly say that I am living a healthier and happier life than ever before. The ability to run a company with integrity, to live authentically, and to lean into my strengths all with the support of an absolutely amazing team has been so rewarding.

I created the Whealth LIMITLESS program around my own rehabilitation of a 10mm disc herniation I’d experienced in my early 20s. That experience taught me things that you cannot learn in a textbook. You can read about things, but to fully experience it is a different level of learning. Intimately knowing how it impacts your entire body, mind, and life allows me to connect with people in a way that is not typically possible. I’m able to share my experience and connect with members through coaching calls in our online community and I know that in many instances, those connections that occur throughout our community are more healing than the physical exercises.

What makes Whealth different from MoveU and other online programs?

I've learned a few things since I entered this industry eight years ago. Over the years, I've gone from working with patients in a clinic setting to guiding over 15,000 people worldwide through my previous online program and becoming an international speaker. I've taught in-person workshops around the world. I've trained pro athletes, celebrities, teenagers, senior citizens, and everyone in between. I've learned that movement alone is never the solution. People are complicated. Pain is complicated. The human body does not operate in a vacuum, nor do any of its parts. It has to be approached holistically for lasting results. Everything in your body and everything in your life plays a role in your health, recovery from pain, and optimal functioning.

I have witnessed the profound impact of approaching the body more holistically. Educating people on nutrition here and there often helped them overcome hurdles with pain. At Whealth, we have fully integrated nutrition into our program. Our team has multiple degrees and certifications in nutrition and experience with nutrition in a medical setting.

On that note, let me tell you a bit about our team at Whealth. We all have ownership. Nothing is achieved by one person alone. It always takes a team. My teammates were eager to approach me about supporting whatever I was doing next. Their values and morals are strong, their mission is clear. Their hearts are full of passion, love, and commitment, and their brains are full of the exact knowledge to execute this mission. These people put their lives on hold and stood by while I was sued by my previous co-founder, supporting me emotionally while that legal battle took place. They flew across the country during a pandemic to meet up and make this happen. We all endured six months without salaries while we waited for the legal battle to wrap up. We are in this together.

Just a bit more about those brains… on our team we have a Masters Degree in Business Administration, a Bachelors Degree in Exercise and Wellness with a minor in Nutrition and Healthy Living, a Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology, a Bachelors Degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering, and a Registered Nurse. The team's certifications include: 1 National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) certified personal trainers, 1 Corrective Exercise Specialists (CES), 1 Performance Enhancement Specialists (PES), 1 Certified Group Fitness Instructors (CGFI), 1 Precision Nutrition Level 1 Certifications, 2 Function Range Conditioning Mobility Specialists (FRCms), 2 Onnit Academy Durability Certified Coaches, Certified Nutrition Coach (CNC), Behavioral Change Specialist (BCS), Athletics and Fitness Association of America (AFAA) Certified Indoor Cycling Instructor (CICI), Crossfit Level 1 Certification, Balanced Body Pilates-Mat certification, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), and a TRX- Suspension Training Course (STC) Certification.

Arguably more important than any of these titles, degrees, or certificates is the amount of combined experience on our team. We have experienced more both personally and professionally than any competitor out there. My experience with pain and my disc herniation is well-known. Cameron experienced a disc herniation with debilitating sciatica. I shared my knowledge with him, coached him, and helped him avoid surgery. He achieved complete recovery, and then he went on to coach others. Cameron is now an absolute beast and knows as much as I do about movement. Katie experienced a significant pelvic organ prolapse which required a 6 hour full pelvic reconstructive surgery. She has made a complete recovery and has become more educated on pelvic health than most medical professionals I've met. Katie created her first pelvic program at my last venture, was an owner there, and spoke internationally on the topic. Teaching all of us the importance. Her passion for the topic and insistence on it being in the program and in our workshops resulted in her achieving a personal goal of increasing the conversation and awareness of pelvic health in the fitness industry.

Safe to say, our team has you covered. You are in good hands here at Whealth, just like Allstate. Jokes aside, our team is in this for all the right reasons and none of the wrong ones. We live, eat, and breathe the things we teach, and we are invested in the outcomes of each member who joins our program. We have all personally invested and sacrificed a lot to get to where we are. We are thrilled to be helping so many people overcome their limitations and enjoy the lives they dreamed of.

What Truly Makes the Whealth Limitless Program Stand Out?

Here at Whealth, we have experienced chronic pain and significant injuries. When seeking help for your injuries, it is far more impactful to learn from people who have lived with and recovered from that pain. We aren't talking about minor experiences with pain or exaggerated experiences, but the kind of pain that rocks your entire world. The kind of pain that prevents you from doing activities of daily living like using the restroom and getting dressed.

In my years of pain and experience helping others with pain, I understand that it is multifactorial. Pain isn't just a result of "bad" movement. Stressors from our diet, our environment (work, household, and relationships), or trauma can also cause pain. It is essential to not only improve the confidence in your body but also to improve your mindset and lifestyle.

Our Limitless program includes 56+ daily workouts, nutritional knowledge, access to our private community, and live coaching calls. We provide PDFs and visual graphics to help clean up and optimize your diet. We provide information about pain and how it works both physiologically and psychologically. We have a robust and active community of like-minded people working to achieve their goals and a plethora of movements designed to improve the health of all of your joints.

We instill confidence in people by educating them on their anatomy (using the same anatomy art we've been using for years) to help people visualize what is occurring with their bodies. We help people overcome the fear associated with pain and the anxiety that often goes along with it. We approach pain holistically because we know that many variables impact the pain experience and that the physical body is just a part of that equation. When people understand more about pain, their nervous systems, their anatomy and master the tools (physical and mental) to cope with the pain, we consider that a success. For some people, it is as simple as improving their movement patterns. For others, it requires a deeper dive into nutrition. For some (many), a significant component of it is psychosocial, meaning looking at all the various parts of their surroundings, relationships, and mental health.

Andrew continues to coach people by providing feedback in the private community and through live coaching calls. We do a live coaching call once a week on a new topic each time, providing the opportunity for questions and answers. Sometimes we lead a live workout, and sometimes we pull a member on camera virtually to do some one-on-one work with them for everyone to watch and learn from. Our community is very close-knit and active. The relationships in the community are incredible, and the amount of support and collective knowledge is mind-blowing.
